Patch Theatre presented an imaginative and interactive show with the ELC and Reception children.
The children sat in a circle and were invited to handle a long continuous piece of ‘string’ that came out of a box. The string consisted of various materials and textures joined together, which continued to change as more and more string was released.
Discussions occurred while manipulating the interesting material string parts, fostering thoughts about a garden, forest, water, mountains, stars and a big deep hole. Invented sounds were also made by the performer as the string moved through the children’s hands.
The children were mesmerised by the performer’s stories, which unleashed their imaginations. They eagerly offered their ideas and built upon the storylines the various textures of material strings and performer provoked.
The children were demonstrating curiosity, enthusiasm, imagination, creativity, cooperation and communication skills. The learning was ‘alive’ and most evident!
